How to Find Your Home's Main Water Shut Off Valve

AJOG's Editors have active research programs and, on occasion, publish work in the Journal. Editor/authors are masked to the peer review process and editorial decision-making of their own work and are not able to access this work in the online manuscript submission system. Work by Editor/authors is assessed using the same criteria as that applied to all AJOG submissions. Sometimes the shut-off valve will be located behind a plastic access panel. A ball valve is a straight handle that runs parallel to the pipe when it is open. To turn off a ball valve, the handle will move from a parallel position to a perpendicular position.

Shutting off the water at the cut off valve located within the house is the best option for leaks that cannot be shut off by local valves. It will cut off your home's entire water supply, allowing you to open up any pipe within the house. The property inspection report is always the best way to locate the shut off valve. Failing that, use your detective skills to narrow down the location of the valve.

Tips for Locating the Water Shut Off Valve Within the House

If you have a leak in your toilet, sink, washing machine, or bathtub , your first option should be to shut off water close to the source as possible. In most cases, the shut off valve will be near the perimeter of the house. Your water main begins at the street and usually heads in a straight line to your home.

If you have a water leak or just need to turn off the water in your home for remodeling or repairs, you must turn off your water upstream at some point. In all homes, you can shut off the water at the main water cut off valve. This turns off water to the entire house, even outside spigots. Luckily, many newer homes implement a number of upstream shut off valves that you can use, short of shutting off water to the entire house. A PEX plumbing manifold is a type of plumbing collection point that is increasingly being installed in newer homes. With a manifold, two large PEX pipes, one hot and one cold, are branched off to various parts of the house.

Find the Streetside Shut Off Valve

Even if the water system was not defective at the time of the property inspection report, the report should still note the locate the shut-off valve as a matter of course. AJOG values inclusion and diversity across research, be it authorship, reviewers, or editors. This is in line with Elsevier’s support of the joint commitment for action on inclusion and diversity in publishing.

We believe passionately in the power of an inclusive publishing environment, not only to do what is right, but to enrich, strengthen and advance us all. Imagine a straight line extending from that point to the nearest point on your home's exterior perimeter. Where that line meets your house is likely where the house's shut-off is located. At the streetside ground-level utility box, lift the lid and set the lid to the side. If there is dirt or sand, remove gently with your hand or with a garden trowel.

Within the Streetside Utility Box

Plumbing manifolds have shut off valves that can shut down water to the entire house. Search for your house's main water shut off valveon the inside of the home. Typically, it will be located on the perimeter of the house, since that is where the water first enters your house. Find the ground-level metal or plastic utility box trap door located at ground level. Staff may direct you to shut off the water valve by yourself or to wait for an emergency dispatch team. Equity and inclusion in publishing is critically important for scientific excellence and innovation.

If you live in a climate that freezes in the winter, this sand or dirt is required to prevent the pipes from freezing and bursting. After clearing the box, you will see the glass-covered meter that may have a secondary cover to protect the glass. Ignore this as it has nothing to do with shutting off the water. This section should locate the shut-off valve and have a photo of the valve.

Inclusion and Diversity

The valve body has stops that only allow the handle to move from one direction to another and will stop the handle when it is fully perpendicular.

Optoma HD141X DLP Projector for sale online

The ANSI lumen rating measures the brightest white that a projector can produce by averaging nine light meter measurements taken across the projected image. Please note that we do not own the products reviewed on this site. We are only reporters and reviews are based on carefully researched and gathered information online and offline to help you make better shopping decisions. I purchased the projector as a used/refurbished model, but the description said that it was an open box return and it was never used. I paid half price for a projector that still had the plastic wrap on it and the power cord factory wrapped. The Projector has a strong lamp and the speaker, if you choose to use it, has very good volume and clarity.

Of all the features of the HD141X, the design probably helps it stand out the most against the rest of the noise. With black-on-black stylings, a polished top casing, and subtle lines around the edges, the HD141X’s design isn’t exactly loud straight out of the box, but it’s not muted either. I measured the HD141X lag time at just 33 milliseconds in Game mode and 33.8 milliseconds in Cinema mode using the Leo Bodnar Video Input Lag Tester.

Projectors

At a distance of 5ft with the lens shining dead on during the day, we recorded 1370 lux of brightness. At 10ft , that figure barely dropped in strength while measuring from the center of the image, to just 1102 lux. Dead zones weren’t much of a problem either, fading just slightly to 912 lux at its absolute weakest points (top left and right-hand corners of the screen). Despite producing over 3,000 lumens of white light, the HD141X tops out at just over 1,000 lumens of colored light. This can make highlights appear too bright and colors look dull or drab in some scenes, especially if using image modes other than Cinema.

The Epson EpiqVision Ultra LS800 is a 4,000-lumen 4K PRO-UHD ultra short throw home theater projector. Below are some photos giving you an idea of what the HD141X is capable of. Note please that with a street price that’s mostly at $599, we realize that people aren’t going to buy an HD141X, and then separately spend $300 to $500 to have it calibrated for best picture. The images you are seeing below are taken with settings right out of the box, except for minor adjustment of brightness and contrast, which anyone can do quickly. Black Optoma HD141X weighs just 5.5 lbs and has the measurements of 8.8 x 12.4 x 4 inches.

If you’re in the market for your very first projector, but aren’t comfortable spending more than you would on a comparable HDTV for the whole setup , the Optoma HD141X is the perfect projector for you.

But will its shockingly low priccome with unseen tradeoffs that ruin the movie-watching experience for you or your guests? Image quality for 3D is essentially the same as for 2D for those aspects of quality that both modes share. In addition, I didn't see any crosstalk, and saw only a hint of 3D-related motion artifacts.

It has two HDMI inputs, which is no surprise since virtually every projector has at least one. BestViewsReviews analyzed 118,124 reviews for 341 products in the Video Projectors category. Too many are simply trying to capitalize on affiliate revenue. And often they review only the products that provide the most kickbacks when you buy. Previously I’ve mentioned that it’s hard to rate a projector simply on the basis of its onboard speakers, considering that 99% of the time you use it, you should have an external stereo system hooked up anyway. With this in mind, there are still some points when you might want to take the projector outside for a block party or camping trip, and in those scenarios, the HD141X will still hold its own just fine.

optoma technology hd141x 3d dlp home theater projector

You’ll find the HD141X Projector, power cord, lens cap (probably not available in previous Optoma’s), back-lit remote control and batteries, a CD-ROM, warranty and quick start cards and a user guide when you open the box. The reason I like this Optoma HD141X DLP Projector is that it projects in 1080i & P. It has a lot of features and is better than my old Optoma HD65 which projects in 720 i & P.

Even if you're sensitive to them, it's still unlikely that you'll find them bothersome unless you plan to watch black and white movies. Both HMDI ports offer full support for 3D from video sources like a Blu-ray player or a cable or FiOS box. The 3D function will work with either DLP-Link or Vesa RF glasses, but not with both at once. Optoma doesn't include any of either kind with the projector. At only $599, the Optoma HD141X represents an outstanding value in home theater projectors.

One area where the Optoma HD141X simply blew us away was in the noise department. Even using sensitive equipment, we were only able to register a 3dB difference in the ambient sound of our testing environment with the projector turned off compared to when it was on and running video content. Unfortunately, the unit itself was seriously lacking inputs, with only two HDMI 1.4 ports , a mini-USB input, and a single audio-out jack. Given the price skimping on all ports except the essentials is understandable, but still pretty disappointing. As I’ve mentioned before, the world of projectors hasn’t seen a lot of design innovation over the past few years, despite the fact that these devices often take the front-and-center attention of any room they’re in. That said, the Optoma HD141X eschews traditional norms with its sleek black shell, but not so much that it will grate on the eyes of any guests who happen to sit down for your weekly movie night.

This is an entry-class projector for the budding home theater enthusiast, and in that role exclusively, it handles the job with flying colors. At louder volumes, the onboard 10W speakers were muddy and lacked serious balance, but once we fiddled around in the settings, we hit a nice happy medium that would do the job of a tower speaker just fine in a pinch. Knowing this, most Optoma projector speakers won’t be the best, as you’ll see in our Optoma HD29Darbee 1080p projector review and Optoma HD28DSE 3D DLP projector review. The user interface on the Optoma HD141X was relatively basic, just about what you would expect from a projector at this price point. Aside from the posterization under these specific conditions, the image quality is more than acceptable, with the projector doing a good job with skin tones and shadow detail .

Optoma HD141X Projector Review – Specifications The Optoma HD141X projector has native 1080p resolution, aka Full HD. With a street price between $599 and $650 online, this DLP projector is suitable for movie viewing, HDTV, and gaming! I use this on my XBOX ONE and I was blown away by the clear and crisp image. It is projected on to a 100" projection screen. The quality and brightness and colors and the sharpness of blacks is amazing. Very Pleased, meets all my expectations and more. I highly recommend this Optoma HD141X DLP Projector. Image quality on my tests was good to near-excellent in most ways, with one notable exception. When I connected the projector to a FiOS box and used the Bright predefined mode, both live and recorded digital video showed a high degree of posterization , particularly with skin tones in close-ups of faces.

Also adding to the HD141X's capabilities as a home entertainment projector is its sound system. The 10-watt mono speaker delivering good sound quality and enough volume to fill any reasonably sized family room. If you want stereo or would simply rather use an external sound system, you can plug it into the projector's mini jack stereo output. In addition to its bargain price, the HD141X has an inexpensive lamp with a long life.

Optoma HD142x DLP Projector Specs

Packed with a great number of features but retailing for less than $1,000, this unit is practically a steal. In any of the preset modes, fan noise from the HD142X is fairly low and in the middle frequency range. At the high altitude setting (above 5,000'), fan noise increases substantially, and sitting within ten feet of the HD142X might be distracting.

optoma hd142x 1080p 3000 lumens 3d dlp home theater

It is the same projector as the HD66, with slightly different packaging. I have refurbished this one to present a bright, clear, colorful ... The audio quality of our test unit's internal 10-watt speaker was disappointing.

Optoma HD142X 3D Projector Review

This means that greys that should be visible are made black instead. I've tried for hours to adjust this but to no avail. What is strange is that in 3D mode Black Clipping is very minimal.

optoma hd142x 1080p 3000 lumens 3d dlp home theater

Rainbow artifacts were more evident than in some other inexpensive DLP projectors we have seen. Color wheel speed was not specified, but low speed wheels are usually responsible for rainbow artifacts. Some viewers are not susceptible to this phenomenon, but a trial viewing is in order before you purchase an HD142X. While the HD142X may serve as an entry-level home theater projector, it really hits its stride as a projector for the living room or den when the crowd is over for some weekend entertainment. It is also small and light enough (5.5 lbs) to be used at work or on the road if HDMI sources are available. Filter projectors based on your desired features and specs.

Home Theater Projector - Optoma MT300 - $219 (North East San Antonio)

Normal Eco reduced brightness in all preset modes by 20%, but the Dynamic Black mode was image content sensitive and varied lamp brightness according to the brightness levels in the scenes being projected. Eco mode reduced fan noise substantially, but Dynamic Black mode had no such effect. The HD142X also offers ISF settings in the picture mode menu once an ISF calibration has been completed. An ISF calibration will dial in the "best" picture quality by technical standards that the projector can produce. However, quite often users find that they prefer calibrations that deviate from these standards since the projector is capable of producing more "pop" than it does when set to ideal calibrations. In any event, an ISF calibration is a significant investment on top of the price of the HD142X itself, so many users who are buying the HD42X due to its very attractive entry level price will probably not bother with it.

The Optoma projector line is one of the world's most advanced and complete. Optoma is a great choice for an award-winning home theater projector or a high-performance data projector. Optoma is a leader in the industry with ultralight portables, powerful presentation projectors, and the ultimate in home theater projectors. The only reason for this projector to be in this list is because of price. But for about $100 to $200 more you can get a really good projector. This projector makes a good image, but it shows its price in light unevenness, crazy rainbows, and smaller projection size.

The HD142X has an input lag meter reading of 33 milliseconds, which is typical for most of the inexpensive DLP projectors we've seen lately. Professional gamers may want to see input lag under 20 milliseconds, but 33 ms is far quicker than many of the higher performance home theater projectors on the market. ANSI LUMENSis the most commonly accepted industry standard brightness measurement. The ANSI lumen rating measures the brightest white that a projector can produce by averaging nine light meter measurements taken across the projected image. This is an Optoma MT300 High Definition Home Theater projector. This is the version of the Optoma HD66 which was sold retail at Walmart.

optoma hd142x 1080p 3000 lumens 3d dlp home theater

Picture definitely "Pops" even in a lit room. Where this projector shines is in the 3D mode. However, watching regular movies there is a lot of Black Clipping.

Those sensitive to rainbow artifacts will probably see them on this unit. Whether their frequency is enough to bother you is something you can only determine by auditioning a sample.

The remote control is laid out clearly and offers direct selection of sources and other functions such as contrast, brightness, aspect ratio, keystone correction, and picture mode. Keys are labeled both in writing and by icons illustrating their function. The remote does include a bottom row of buttons for legacy analog inputs that are not active because those inputs do not exist on this model. Like many new projectors, the HD142X offers multiple Eco lamp modes.

BOBLOV 3D Active Shutter Glasses DLP-Link USB Rechargeable for Home Theater

It was certainly loud enough for a small to medium room, but at half volume or higher, there was a lack of clarity that made the upper volume settings unappealing. There was no buzz or rattle, just a muddiness that reduced speech quality. 3D performance was better than most in this price class with little crosstalk or noise. The HD 142X is compatible with IR-based 3D shutter glasses, but it also sports a connection for an RF emitter that eliminates the directional limitations of the IR glasses. Our Highly Recommended designation is earned by products offering extraordinary value or performance in their price class. Additional FeaturesStream Full 1080p 3D content to your projector wirelessly- the WHD200 allows you to connect a Blu-ray™ player, set-top box, gaming console or AV receiver instantly.

Black levels were excellent with dark scenes showing smooth transitions and small grey-scale differences easily distinguished. The new Optoma HD142X full HD home theater projector puts up a gorgeous image with good contrast, natural flesh tones, and plenty of shadow detail, all for a street price of just $579. And it is bright--when calibrated for optimum video it puts out over 1200 lumens, more than ample for dark room home theater. And you can double the light output if you need it for gaming in moderate ambient light. With respect to vertical offset, the bottom of the projected 120" diagonal image is 9" above lens centerline at the wide angle zoom setting.

Home Theater Projector 1080p Optoma HD20 - $250 (Louisville)

Within each mode, brightness, contrast, saturation, tint, color temperature, and sharpness can be adjusted. The video image from the HD142X was clear, sharp from edge to edge and top to bottom, and noise free. Cinema mode rendered very natural flesh tones, and after a slight boost in contrast and a reduction in brightness, highlight and shadow detail were well-defined.

optoma hd142x 1080p 3000 lumens 3d dlp home theater

Its superb brightness is something the Optoma brand is known for – even at a mere 7 to 10 feet projection distance, the images look great, making it one of the best for its price range. The 3D performance isn’t as amazing, but still pretty good, with up to 144 Hz in 3D mode. However, if you are a gamer, the HD142X may not be your best option. It has a 60 Hz refresh rate, and the response time isn’t as fantastic, but it’s passable if you want to experience gaming through a huge projection screen. While this projector isn’t revolutionary, it’s certainly going to give you more than your money’s worth as it gets the job done. Even though there is a User mode on the HD142X where specific preferred settings can be stored, each of the five preset picture modes can be adjusted independently which effectively creates five additional User modes.

Home pregnancy tests: How to take a pregnancy test at home

Here's everything you need to know about pregnancy tests you can take at home, including how soon you can take a pregnancy test and how to get the most accurate results. Verywell Family uses only high-quality sources, including peer-reviewed studies, to support the facts within our articles. Read our editorial process to learn more about how we fact-check and keep our content accurate, reliable, and trustworthy. You may decide to take a pregnancy test because you are having early pregnancy symptoms. But keep in mind, the same hormones that cause pregnancy-like symptoms are present every month between ovulation and your period. Many symptoms similar to pregnancy symptoms can have other causes, like a cold, the flu, or even a few nights of poor sleep.

how quickly can you take a home pregnancy test

A test performed several days before an expected period can show a positive result, but the woman still gets her period soon or on time. Rarely, certain tumors can produce hCG, causing a pregnancy test to be positive even when a woman is not pregnant. Ovulation generally occurs around day 15 of a 28-day cycle.

For the most accurate results, take the test right after you get up in the morning. That's when your urine is the most concentrated, making HCG easier to find. Verywell Health uses only high-quality sources, including peer-reviewed studies, to support the facts within our articles. The best time to take a pregnancy test is the day after your expected period, in the morning hours, with your first urination of the day. The longer you wait to take a pregnancy test, the higher your chances of getting an accurate result. Most tests promise 99% accuracy on the day of your missed period.

If you test just seven days after ovulation, pregnancy tests generally can't pick up the very low levels of hCG in your urine. That means you'll likely get a "false negative" even if sperm has met egg. If you’re testing before your period is due, it’s best to take a pregnancy test in the morning, when the concentration of hCG in your urine is highest.

More-sensitive tests need less HCG in urine to show a positive result. If you're not sure which type of test to use, ask a pharmacist. For the most accurate results, always test with your first-morning urine and follow the instructions carefully. That’s why it’s important to speak with your doctor if you’re in fertility treatment.
